The Long Run Children’s Learning Center (LRCLC), formerly known as the McKeesport Pre‑School for Exceptional Children, opened its doors in October 1962 with three students and one teacher. Its original home was the First Presbyterian Church in McKeesport, although the school moved to the Central Presbyterian Church in 1970 and then to Boston, PA in 1978.
The Center is now located in a newly-constructed facility at 1109 Long Run Road, and offers services for preschool children with a wide range of developmental levels.
The teaching staff includes certified teachers and specially-trained teacher aides. In addition, the LRCLC provides the services of speech, physical, and occupational therapists and a Family Worker. Overall, the school has a staff ratio of three children to one adult.
The Long Run Children’s Learning Center is proud to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and to hold a rating of four Keystone Stars. These rating systems are rigorous, voluntary processes by which early childhood programs demonstrate that they meet national standards of excellence, and the LRCLC was the first early intervention program in the area to earn these endorsements.
